Hello, my name is Karen Dunnet. I am a fully qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist with a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and a Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma. I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, the Association of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, the National Council for Complimentary Medicine and I would love to help you to make improvements to your life.

I have had quite a varied career over the years, from working in pharmaceutical research and academia to running a café and delicatessen. However, I have always been interested in psychology and how our brains work and did an Introduction to Counselling Skills Course, thinking that I would retrain as a psychotherapist. I then discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and decided that this was the one for me!

Why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

​So, what is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy? Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses a modern, well researched approach to help people make significant and positive change to their lives relatively quickly. The solution focused approach is all about the present and the future, there is no need to delve into the past to try and make sense of the here and now. This means that it is a very positive experience, we aim to have lots of fun along the way!

Life can be challenging, sometimes we find it hard to cope and notice that our anxiety levels rise making us irritable and unhappy. High anxiety can affect many aspects of our lives: sleep, self-confidence, weight, aches and pains to name but a few. By recognising that we are suffering, and taking action, we can get back in control of our lives. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you to understand what is happening, why you may be suffering and what we can do about it. We work together as a team, with commitment and effort from both you and me.

What Happens Next?

​The Initial Consultation lasts for about 1 hour and it is during this session that I would ask you for details of what you feel is wrong with your life and what you would like to change. I then give you a simple explanation of how the brain works, with specific reference to your problem, and how trance can help us to make the changes you wish to achieve in your life. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have throughout this session. The Initial Consultation will enable me to develop a personalised treatment plan for you and you will receive a free download or CD to take with you (worth £10) at the end of the session.

Subsequent sessions last 50 – 60 minutes. We use a combination of psychotherapy techniques and hypnotherapy to help you to achieve the long-lasting changes you are aiming for.

Following a few traumatic years after the very quick loss of mum after being diagnosed with cancer and being there for my dad and losing him also two and half years later with cancer the mental stress had taken its toll. I gave into antidepressants, I thought I could cope but knew I wasn’t. I gave myself a timeline of only 12 months to be on these and I kept to it. At this point I was also working on a very important project at work and personally I needed to find my inner strength and remove layers of built up stress and anxiety, that’s when I spoke to Karen. The difference in how I feel, how I deal with various situations and the way I look at life has totally changed, my anxiety no longer exists, I approach life’s challenges in a more relaxed and calm manner. You need to invest in the most important aspect of your health, your mind.


Sought help from Karen for a couple of phobias after she was referred to me by a friend. From the first time we met, Karen made me feel really comfortable and relaxed. I would highly recommend Karen for hypnotherapy. I first attended a relax session just to try it out and found that actually I was a lot more stressed out than I realised. The relaxation helped me to de-stress and also the chat before helped me to reassess my work life balance and make some pretty big decisions at work which ultimately made me speak up and change things. The positive thinking and reinforcing that through the subconscious is now part of my everyday thought processes and I have found that I am much happier. I can spot now when I am under too much pressure and can speak up before it gets to too much a stressful place. It is so important to be able to see these signs early before stress takes over and does some very strange things with your mind!.


I have been to see Karen about issues with confidence. Karen is a very calm and easy person to talk to. She is very good at explaining how the mind works, why we can become stressed and anxious and has helped me to think more positively about my life. The hypnotherapy itself is very relaxing but the message gets through. As a result I feel more in control and confident that I will be able to deal with whatever life throws at me. It has had a positive effect on my life and I would have no hesitation in recommending Karen.


For as long as I can remember I have been afraid of heights. Started out as an issue I acknowledged with mild anxiety but some 40 years later became a full-blown fear which affected my life and filled me with dread. To the point that I had to check what I was doing daily to ensure that I would avoid doing anything involving height. Particularly edges. Especially bridges. I met Karen some time ago on a counselling course and it was when she posted that she was studying hypnotherapy I contacted her to challenge her to help me get over this, what was to me an irrational but real fear. I didn’t expect much but was willing to give it a go. The result was astonishing. When I next had an issue to deal with, even though I was aware of my tension, I was able to relax enough to get through the situation which has now perpetuated my confidence. I am now able to function with many situations where in the past I would have moved heaven and earth to avoid. I can wholly recommend this therapy with Karen.


I was watching TV tonight and out of the corner of my eye I saw a black shape about the size of a conker gliding on my wall. It was a spider. My usual reaction of a flutter of the heart didn’t happen, and I just paused my TV, got a cup and put it out my window. No hassle, no reaction whatsoever! Then I spotted another one, I did the same thing of capturing it and putting it out of my window, as it is only an enemy of my imagination, but was able to keep my cool, calm composure that you were able to teach me! I could not be more thankful for what you have enabled me to do! I would have cried and screamed at my parents before I had ant sessions with you.
